CE 8.5 to 9 upgrade gotchas?

Hi all,
I currently have a very stable CE 8.5 environment
( actually 2 of them production and development) which are
running under W2K - Both have all the servers, etc on the same machine and both have good response time.
( I plan to cluster them after versioning, if we decide to upgrade).

What can I expect when I upgrade to v9 of CE ( I plan to do the development box first ) - are there any functional changes ( like do I need to upgrade all the web connectors
on the other web servers ( all IIS for now) that connect to the CE services?)- any changes needed to custom csp pages/code?

Thanks for any guidance and/or advice on 'best practices'

Never liked the word upgrade with a server application or OS. Prefer a clean install of v9, get this running, then Import your users etc with the import wizard or alternatively, copy the old FileStore to the new box and migrate the APS database.

I have run Upgrades and it is not too bad. There is a section in the Install help file with steps to follow for this process.

If you are planning on clustering these boxes (creating 1 environment) I might look at doing Dev first in v9 (inistalled with a clustered APS), then on Production preform a clean Expanded install. This will create your clustered boxes for you.

Thanks...seems like a good approach.

Thanks, snowdude,
I have that doc and it does handle the 'functional aspects' very well, but one the advantages of this group of folks is in getting 'real world' experiences in addition to the 'company line'..

BTW, If snowdude implies a love of snow, as a Minnesotan I would invite you here some winter ( which runs from October to April) [smile]

I had issues trying to get my 8.5 reports to run once I imported them into a fresh install of 9. I did a freah install first and couldn't get my migrated 8.5 reports to run. I unistalled 9, installed 8.5, and then upgraded to 9 and got much better results. I can share more detail with you later if you like.

Hi,
Thanks, that would be great..My main concern ( obviously ) is with the 200 or so reports already published ( all designed with CR Pro 8.5)..The docs all indicate that there should be no problem, but....

I upgraded from 8.5 to 9 without major trauma.
The only gotcha I had was updating all objects in the CCM after the upgrade. All objects (about 750 of them) failed to update, complaining about licensing!
Anyway, I entered the licence keys when CE eventually let me, and run the update objects again with no problems.

Snowdude does indeed a love of snow!
I should have been spending last winter in Alaska snowboarding, but got a daughter instead!!

I don't have any details (sorry) but our tech guy was told by Crystal's support folks that you couldn't upgrade from 8.5 to 9 -- that it would have to be a clean install. May want to check with them.

It can indeed be done - I have done it!
I despair at Crystal support sometimes, where do they get their people from.
About the PDF I mentioned earlier - It gives you helpful tips such as upgrading using a local admin account and not the domain admin, as apparently you get full privileges this way. It's just a shame they released this document after I had upgraded! (and yes, I had used the domain admin account if you were wondering).

I am in the process of upgrading a system from 8.5 to 9.0. All seemed to be going well until I came to upgrade the objects (2032 of them!). The upgrade process just seemed to hang at the start. I have found this as c2012419 in the CD kb, but it offers no solution beyond checking that input and output are enabled.
My next step is to apply all the CE9 patches, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced and perhaps solved this issue?

thanks
