cdr fail alarm button assign

we just upgraded our system to s8730s and CM 5.2 .Last thursday nite a tech came out and loaded the abbreviated dialing patch. Just discovered this morning that cdr logging failed, both cdr buffers full. the problem was the two network servers that collect the cdr data had to be rebooted.

I want to assign a cdr fail 1 and 2 alarm button to my 2420to have a visual indication of a problem. Actually,
I had assigned the buttons weeks ago but nothing was indicated.
I added console permissions to my cos this morning hoping I was missing that step.
What else do I have to configure to get this to work?
BTW I added a major alarm button also .

UPDATE
console permissions did the trick, but with a 2420 and soft buttons the field assigned to the button displays a little arrow only in the LCD display, I also had to juggle things around and put the assignments on the first page of the menus otherwise I would miss it ...
I am wondering if there is a way to assign an audible tone or ring to the fail alarm
