cdbe gremlin

I have just upgraded to Netware SP3 and the server is very slow sometimes, three of four times an hour. I have tracked it to the "cdbe gremlin" thread using Monitor, Kernel, Busiest Threads. Usage goes to 100% for about 10 to 30 seconds and clients 'hang' for that time.

The server is an HP Netserver LC2000 u3 using NetRAID 1M.

Any ideas of how to fix it?

Prior to SP3, this was not a problem, but SP3 has fixed other things.

not sure about the netserver bit but i know some compaq's had a similar issue until you apllied the latest compaq supportpaq

with compaq it was cosmetic but appeared in the same way

not sure if hp has softpaq's for this server

Suggest three things.

The problem is likely to be with OS's attempts to access the C:\Nwserver directory using inefficient real mode drivers. Load DOSFAT.NSS to allow the OS to access the C: drive naturally. You will probably have to set the server parameter to 0 for restart after abend from its default value of 1. Go to: console monitor-server parameters-error handling-autorestart after abend =0. If you do not, you get a warning message when you load DOSFAT.NSS. It will take a few minutes to load if you are sitting at 100%

Second thing is to ensure you are using the April 2003 Mega4_XX drivers from the LSI web site. The version 6 ones with SP3 have dodgy interupt handling.

Third thing is to apply NLS603FT service pack.

The first should fix the problem but do the others as well as they are all known to impact utilisation levels.

Finally apply NW6NSS6c irrespective of whether you are running traditional or NSS volumes. The DOSFAT volume loads as NSS.
