I have a SAMSUNG RW32-10-40 (CD-Writer) and recently, since having to re-install W2K (thanks to the mess made of it by the various MS updates), Nero similates that it is writing to the CD. But doesn't actually write.

Meanwhile it reads data and plays music from CD-ROMS.

I have un-installed and re-installed both the SAMSUNG and Nero but can't overcome the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I think Nero is under the impression you license is invalid. Contact ahead and reconfirm your license number. It likely is time for an upgrade to Neto anyway.

Yes. I made many backups.

I find the following in the Glossary of Nero help where reference is made to this simulation.

simulation
The simulation corresponds to the burning process but the difference is that nothing is written. That means it can be used to check if the data to be burned is being sent to the CD Writer quickly enough without a buffer underrun occurring. Apart from that, it can be used to check if the burner can write the CD at all. A simulation should be carried out if you are not sure if the system supplies the data fast enough. Once you have burned a few CDs successfully, then you can turn off the simulation without any problems.

But for the life of me I can't find where to turn off this simulation.

FIXED!

But I don't know exactly I did to do it. :-)

The only things of note being:-

1.
I uninstalled a second CD-ROM driver (read-only) as I came to suspect that Nero was somehow being confused with it.
2.
Re-installed Nero.
3.
Upon trying a new CD-RW disk .... it woiks!

The only remaining problem being I can't find how to reformat the original CD-RW disk - which seemed to be part of the problem.

Can anyone tell me how to do this please?

Does the software that accompanies the Samsung CD writer have an erase utility for CD-RW disks? If so, use it and then reformat the CD-RW disk in question.

delphiman,

Check and see if you have InCD loaded. It should be on your Nero CD or download from here:
