I have just bought a Freecom Internal CD-RW. The manual says to connect the audio cable to the sound card. I haven't looked yet, but I anticipate that the DVD audio connector will be connected to the sound card. Do I disconnect the DVD sound cable? and put the CD-RW in its place. I have never opened a PC before so forgive any obvious ignorance please. The manual also says to make sure the connections are oriented so that L corresponds to L and R to R but I can't see any little L's or R's on the jacks on the ends of the audio cable that has come with the CD-RW and it isn't clear which end goes into the CD-RW and which end goes into the sound card!

well for one thing, i heard that you sudnt use ur cdrw regularly. if you have another drive then use that. you can still be able to rip music if you have an audio cd in the drive. however, u cant listen to music from it. i suggest you juss stick with the audio cable on the dvd and use that to play audio cds. in addition, made ur dvd the master as well. if u use the cdrw too much it mite burn out *juss a precaution*.

Your sound card usually has an auxillary connector that you can plug the audio cable into. Just follow the existing audio cable form your existing CD-ROM drive and you will see an unused connector near it(on the sound card) that is usually designated "aux". Also, you should make sure your existing drive is optioned as the "master" and your CD-RW as the "slave". You can play music on either drive and it will play through your speakers if you hooked up the audio cable right. I understand that some drives can be optioned for digital sound and the audio cable isn't required, but I've never tried this feature. If you follow the instructions carefully that came with the CD-RW drive, you should do just fine. The manuals that came with your computer should show you how to access the inside of your computer.
