Purchased etower 533id. 64mb,128kb,8x DVD, 56K. Microsoft Intel Celluron. Windows 98. Everything works fine. Computer says nothing is wrong with drive; however, it reads fine but will slow down and run, slow down and run, and sometimes just stops. Would a drive cleaner work? It does this on all CD's. The machine is only 2 yrs. old and the drive is hardly used. Thanks for input. Transcriptionist

I myself would just replace the drive and be done with it. They aren't worth messing with in my mind and it sounds like the drive is going bad to me. Longlivegoku

If it is just a CDROM and not an R/W or DVD just buy a new one. It probably isnt covered by a warranty being 2 years old, unless you bought an extended warranty for it. You can buy a brand new 56X CDROM for about $40.00 from an online store. By the time you buy cleaning supplies that probably will not work and waste your money and gas and time, you will have almost paid for a new one. Of course you may have to pay for shipping too. so if you can find one at the store like best-buy or wallmart for $60.00 or less in a retail box that might be a good deal. Best-buy also has an on-line store. So if you buy it online you have a real place to go and complain if it doesn't work. My creative 56X CDROM has been lasting for quite a while. I also like my Asus 56X CDROM I purchased recently at is also a good online store. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
