I have a WIndows XP system that, whenever any type of cd is put into the pc, and you click the cdrom icon, a box appears that says "Choose the application that you want to open this with"
I assume a registry entry is to blame. Anyone know a quick fix?

That is actually a normal procedure for XP...
When Windows detects a CD-ROM (or any other media) which does not contain an AUTORUN.INF normally needed for AutoPlay, Windows will check if there are any "handlers" available that can "handle" the contents of the CD-ROM.

For example, when you insert a Video-CD usually does not contain an AUTORUN.INF, Windows will check if there is one or more handlers registered to handle this Video-CD. If so, a window will pop up displaying the registered handlers so you can easily choose one. You can also select one of these handlers as the default selection for the current type of CD-ROM.

To disable this select the CD-ROM or DVD Drive in question, right-click on it, selecting "Properties" and uncheck the tab "AutoPlay".

Hope this helps...

Actually, this box pops up no matter if its a Windows install cd or a music cd.The cdrom just doesnt know to do when its clicked.

Alternatively, you can set the applications to use for different types of CD - again by right-clicking the drive and using the Autoplay tab.

I tried all of these and nothing works.
Is there any applications that will reset all file associations to their defaults?
Thanks

1.) This is not a File Association Problem...

2.) you could try X-Setup, it has functions to Enable/Disable Handlers...
3.) hope this helps...
