(toshiba dvdrom sd-m1612 + samsung cd-rw sw248f)

cannot reinstall till i fix this problem, any help would be great.thanks.

Sounds fine to me ..
Are there any question marks in device manager / conflicts ?
Expand all..
Did you see any driver relating to AFS2K.SYS under
"hidden devices " "non-plug and play " ?

..

A smart thing to do now is to install som cdburning sw like Nero (NOT HP or EASYCD) ,and update it to latest version .

..

That drivers are the ones listed under the cd drive
driver details right ?
Thats all the drivers you need for cdrom devices in xp .

In addition to this is of cource aspi layer .
( if needed ..)

my device manager has a sound and video game controller error code 39 on :cm18738/c3dx ici audio device..but i dont think thats it. i once change my pio which is 5 to 0 and managed to insatll a game but i no nothin really..my dma is 2. will install nero. thanx

Looks good :
IDE optical drives use Ultra DMA mode 2 (Ultra DMA/33).
e.g dma 2
Thats the max. speed you willget out of it.

Are you having any problems/issues now .
Please be detailed ...

still problems...restarting on spin up.if it does get through an install its messed up.
event viewer errors /warnings
The performance counter name string value in the registry is incorrectly formatted. The bogus string is %1!s!, the bogus index value is the first DWORD in Data section while the last valid index values are the second and third DWORD in Data section.

2:Windows saved user %1 registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

AVSynMgr:most common error.no solutions.

i just dont get it any more. this must be bad.

nero hasnt got any drivers in there, all thats left from that package is a plugin and a disk image thing that creates another cd-rom drive. going to search for that sys file again..running out of ideas.

Could there be a virus in your system .
I think there is no driver related problem that causes
restart problems at your rig now.

Maybe you should do an on-top install/repair on your
windows.

What do you think.-.
On-top repair/install does not affect your
files .But you will have to download all neccesary
windows updtate fixe's all over .

If you choose this ,make sure that you're not connected to
internet unless you have a nat firewall/router in front of your c-puter .

If not disconnect your adsl or what ever .And connect it
after you have enabled xp firewall in your advances proprierties
for your i-net connection. The xp-firewall is disabled by default and msblast and others only need a few minuts to infect your c-puter.
To bad we didn't resolve your system without reinstalling.
But reinstall via doing a repair install is a pretty good
option .

Before tis you could do an SFC check on your system ,
check this tread at tek-tips:

ok ..it sounds fair...just 1 moe q)before i go hopefully not forever and see what happens.
Q) what if it starts repair fron the cd and then just keeps rebooting with this error. can i doit in safe mode do u think..its happend there aswee. interesting. thanx for everything though soaplover i learnt alot. imma think bout it for an hour or 2........expecting a miricle.lol.

k..i tried the thread thing....is it an application aswell. it took 5 attemps to run through the chknow thins...i used run:.

it need to check the contents of the apps. then it jus switched off. event viewer said nothing.its wierd really most of the times are wrong. mabey i jus dont know what im doing. it didnt say anything though. do u no where it is on the system,or is it a install cd thing, service pack.

ok give it to me.....best fix option you know.im gonna try the fix thing.should i do it through the console or operating system,i had enough now..jus want it to gp away.what do u rekon soaplova

Could it be the power supply? The cd rom would draw more power at spin up.Try unpluging the power from from some of your hardware to reduce the power load and try the cdrom again.Do both drives cause the problem or just one? I don't know if xp pro has system restore but if does you might think about that.

Hi geo87 is on to something i've not thought about
try disconnect one of the drives e.g the dvd drive .
Leaving the cdrw as master on the ide channel .
Make sure your cable and master/slave settings are right
and try again .
If your cpu is overclocked ,set it to normal speed.
This might give some more power as geo 87 said.

Try disconnect cabinet fans to, and leave the side door open this will give enough cool air to the cpu fan.

omg...guess who,s back....thankx soaplova for all your help...i couldnt have found the problem without you...

i went through everything u said..and was left with the power supply and the cpu to check.

i opend the pc and noticed a stretch in a power supply cable. i give it a tug and it snapped..he he he A 16 POUND POWER SUPPLY DONE THE TRICK. all is well except 1 minor detail. i reformated ..started over...but when i get on the net. this thing called DLLhost slows my comp domn..when i end the process its all good.

thanx again for the help...i'll recomend ya...kiss kiss..

ok folks...me and soaplover rule.
the cd rom and writer were rebooting the computer becaus of the power supply..

so if u have the same trouble buy a new 1...16 quids.

Seems to have been a rather long fault location process.
Sounds! i think you should give sopalover a star if he/she was helpful in solving your problem.
