cannot reinstall till i fix this problem, any help would be great.thanks.

Are they connected to the same ide channel ,
could be that there is a problem with that one.
Try uninstall the ide channel and reboot , you may have
to reconfigure the drive letters afterwards .

//Soaplover

um..i dont no.. just location 0 and location 1. file sytem of cd rom is cdfs. cd-rw file system unknown.

Right click on my computer .
Select "manage".
Click on "device manager"
Expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
Right click on "secondary IDE channel" (the second one).
Choose "uninstall"
OK
wait for it to finish
and reboot.
(i'm sure you have your harddisks at the primary IDE
and the cdroms on the secondary)

thanx soaplover, will they reconfigure on start up.will try it out. :)

The CD drives will get the first free
drive letters by windows .
E.g if you have partitions like mine
you must reconfigure driveletters after.
When i do this my cd's become E: and F:
as my HDD partitions are C: D: H: M:
I like to have the writer as W:
and the reader/DVD as R:
So in device manager in disk management
one right click on the CDdrive's and change letter.

Why do you have afs2k.sys and incdm.sys
Have you installed/uninstalled 3'rd party cdburning sw.
If so what ?

//Soaplover

nero is all i can think of..i had easy cd with the computer but unistalled. can i take jus 1 driver out at a time.i dont no what the dll file is either

ok..incd is nero.......afs2k is a mystery to me.do u think maybe this could be it,i dont understand why these drivers would be on both drives. is that a mess or a mess. does my cd rom really need the nero driver..huh strange..im off to bed..thanx soaplover youve helped me out..im gettin closer.

I'm pretty sure that ist the afs2k
this is not xp compatible by meny folks meaning.
And alot have simular problems as you have.
It seemes that it orginates from HP.
It could be installed togeter with HP recording sw
and as i saw some kind of HP printer.

Found this on the net:
The drivers that are included with this drive will cause a conflict with any other cd writing software you may have installed. There are some work arounds, but not very easy to do. The bonus software if installed on some Windows XP machines, and Windows 2000, will make the system unstable, cause problems for all of your cdroms including the DVD300I. The program HP memories disk creator installs a flaky driver called AFS2K.sys which can not be removed easily once installed. If you do remove it, all of the CDROMS stop working. It can be removed, but then of course the writing software stops working! I have contacted tech support about this, which HP does not want to admit there is a problem. If you do a Google search for AFS2K.SYS you will see that there are 1000's of computers that are having this same problem. Before buying make sure drivers have been fixed.

Basically a nice drive but without the drivers and support from HP, I would wait until this gets resolved.

Nero homepage has a driver cleaner and reg-clean utility
for removal of non wanted drivers.
Maybe it can get rid of afs2k.sys for you.
Download cleanpack.zip and extract the zipped files onto your hard disk using WinZip or WinRar.
You should now have two files:
Driver-CleanTool.exe and RegistryChecker.exe.
First, run Driver-CleanTool.exe by double-clicking it.
The Driver-CleanTool will deactivate drivers that caused problems in Nero in the past.
Confirm the deactivation of the drivers displayed in order to prevent known driver conflicts from reoccurring in the future.
These drivers also exist, with values, in the registry in Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
In order to ensure that these drivers are also deactivated you will need to run the RegistryChecker file.

Or you could unistall it yourself in device manager
"view" show hidden devices .

thats some sweet advice soaplover. will get back to u on that.....thanks a million..

ok this is what i found... i'll check it out .
its hewlette packard printing crap. lover was right.
i hear you can get rid with the clone cd...hold your breth

k.. i ****** it...ha ha ha .

Download and install Elby Clone CD Reboot system
Rename AFS2K.SYS to AFS2K.OLD and reboot system.
(NOTE: CD Drives will be invisible and inaccessible after renaming this file.)
During the startup of my system after re-naming the file, the Elby Clone CD program reported that the file AFS2K.SYS was corrupted and asked if I wanted the settings removed from the registry, which I of course said YES.

but it did not do all the abouve...cd drives are invisible.. i renamed and got rid of afs2k.. now i cant get my cd drives up even though i unistalled and it recognises the drive...they have a code 39.. missing or currupted notice...noooooooooooooooooooooooo. any ideas

ok...its not clone cd u need...its clone dvd,,,,it recognizes the sys file as crap and deletes it from the reg....now to c if it works.

Okay no need to swet yet.

Our first go:

Expand "CD/DVD-roms drives" in device manager .
Right click and uninstall all including elby.
do not reboot.

Expand "IDE/ATAPI controllers"
Right click and uninstall channel two.
do not reboot.

In device manager choose "View" and show
hidden devices.
Expand "Non-plug and play drivers"
check if the damnd afs2k.sys is there an unistall it.
Also uninstall ElbyCDIO driver.

Now reboot and lets see what the fabolous
windows xp does to find new devices .

//Soaplover

ok i will try it...but ...((Expand "CD/DVD-roms drives" in device manager .
Right click and uninstall all including elby.)) i think when i right click to uninstall..everything goes anyway doesnt it... and oh yea..the last thing i tried never worked.will try yours

k soap..i did all that..i found all without needing a disk or driver....i didnt do it in safe mode..should i..all devices say they a working properly..these drivers are left
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll

loosing faith..last time i tried..runnig a disk it restarted..i tried again without running and checked the cd rom volumes....partition was (MBR) is that correct...cdr wouldnt even check volume it restarted.. imma try again and run 1 now.

the afs2k has gone though.
