Sometimes after boot up my CD R/RW drive shows up but most of the time it does not. The other CD-ROM drive shows up. Any ideas. Thank you for your inputs.

Code 28

The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver

Solution button: Reinstall Driver

This code means the device was not installed completely.

To resolve this issue, follow the recommended solution. If that does not work, try removing the device from Device Manager and using the Add New Hardware wizard to redetect it. You may need to obtain updated drivers if the error still occurs.

If I update the PCI driver under other devices out of device manager this should correct the problem concerning the CD R/RW drive intermittingly showing up? My computer is a compaq presario model 5BW250. I don't know what driver I need or where to go. Is there an auto detect agent that will tell me what driver needs to go in there and where.

I started up in Safe mode and the exclamination point went away. What does this mean. Normal mode the exclaimation comes back. Thanks

Right click on my computer, properties, select device manager, click the + , select the CD R/RW , select properties, select drive tab, select update. If the does fix it.
do the same steps above but this time select remove. Reboot and let the plug and play find it.

mrfixit,
cant update the driver. CD RW isn't listed. Lately it hasn't came back. No lights or anything.

Have you checked BIOS setting make sure it is set to auto.
Is it internal or external?

Internal CD RW. Intermittently shows up still. How do I check and see if BIOS is set up on Auto? Appreciate your help..
