My stepdaughter left a CD in her drive during a recent storm here (nothing unusual for Florida as you can almost set your watch during rainy season). It knocked out power for a short period of time. When electricity came on, her system rebooted & all was fine except for the CD. It shows nothing is recorded on it. Does anyone know of a program that can recapture the data on it? I tried it on all her & our CD-RW drives to no avail. Apparently, it was her only copy of this data.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Linney, I downloaded BadCopy and I am currently running it under Rescue Lost Files - Mode #2. The top line in the window shows Total Sectors 151,332 -> Sectors read 5800 -> Bad Sectors 375. Under that it shows Scan Progress 3.9% -> Data Lost 0.2% -> Files Found 84. This was after initiating the scan 3 hours earlier. My main concern is a message in the dialog box at the bottom saying Note: The found files listed above could be saved if stopped. Does that mean I have to stop the scan just before it completes to save as much as possible? And save to where, my HD, that CD or a new CD?
Thanks for your help.

Aaaarghhh! This disc must be jinxed. I went to bed early this AM while it was still scanning. At that point, it had located 154 files and was still less than 10% complete as to scan. Alas, later this morning (while I was sleeping) an electrical storm passed thru & knocked out our power temporarily. The storm has intensified, actually, we've had 2 funnel clouds touch down less than 5 miles north & south of us, so I'm leery about inserting the disk again & retrying to salvage any files. Thought we only had to deal with hurricanes here in SW Florida. I see a little girl & her dog fly by, I'm grabbing my bottle of Chevaz, a bucket of ice, my last isssue of PC World and camping out in my walk-in closet. [2thumbsup]
Cheers, Bob

I hope everything is well with you, and that you, and your family, and your community, safely come through your present crisis.

I have never used "BadCopy" myself, so I can't tell you much about it. You may have to direct your questions to their support people.

Just guessing, and that is all, and based on your comments, there may be some saved files on your hard drive, perhaps in some Temp file, from your weather interrupted first attempt?

Thanks for your well wishes & yes we, local community as well as family & freinds in nearby communities fared well. [thumbsup2] I didn't travel to affected areas as I didn't want to impede emergency vehicles but damage seems to be minimal there as well. Thanks again for your input. I'll check my HD to see if it salvaged any files there. Will also check the Help manual for BadCopy before trying again.
Cheers, Bob [shadeshappy]
