I have just installed Win 2000 on my home PC. When I play Music CD's they appear to play ok. If I play a game there is no sound at all , Anyone ever come across something like this ?

Do you get the standard Windows startup sounds when you logon? Have you checked (volume control) that the Wave slider isn't down at zero volume? Does device manager show any problems for your soundcard? Do the games require sound 'setting up'?

Are you using a third party sound control panel ,i.e SoundBlaster 5.1 ? If so check the mixer and see if any of the mute options are set.

Ed Please let me know if the suggestion(s) I provide are helpful to you.

I,ve discovered that the problem is with my Audio Codecs set up. When I go in Control Panel-Sounds and Multimedia there are very few Microsoft Audio Codecs installed. . The Sounds and Media Tab contains only 3 tabs instead of 4. There is a Sounds-Audio-Hardware tab, but there is no Speech tab. Any ideas how to correct this please ?
