I"m working on a pretty new gateway pc that will not load the drivers for the cd drive. The bios and device manager see the drive, but device manager shows a yellow sign with exclimation point by it. When I click deeper into its properties it says' " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be missing or corrupt. (code39)
I have tried two different brand new drives. i have hooked them up as master, slave in all combos possible and on the cable with the hard drive which shows up fine. You can see windows detect the drive when hooked up but it will not load correctly as the exclimation sign proves. I have unistalled and reinstalled the driver from the recovery disk. I have downloaded the most recent from the chipset manufactures website all to the same result. Before all this the machine was a virus and spyware mess. i had used spyware doctor, spysweeper, spybot, ad-aware, avg anti spyware, asquared anti malware, antivir, avg, trendmicro online scan, bitdefender online scan kaspesky online scan, norton enterprise antivirus, highjack this, combofix, cwshredder, vundofix, elite toolbar remover, kaza begone, about buster, windows defender, sdfix, sophos anti rootkit, rootkit revealer, just to name a few. no rootkits detected by the way. I don't know that the drive thing was present when i first started on the pc but when i went to take it to the client it had the drive problem. Can't seem to get it fixed now. Any help would be welcome.
