Hi,

Formatted HDD- run setup for Windows 98- loaded 98 from CD drive. After installation was completed I was about to install motherboard drivers when I couldnt find the CD drive?? Checked My Computer however it was not listed!

Checked jumper setting on cd drive- seem ok but have booted up pc on different jumpers settings but still cannot see Drive.

When pc is booting up I can see that the bios knows there is a cd drive

Could this be a problem with Windows? or is it an hardware issue?

Please help
Cheers!

Also try replacing the IDE cable to the drive or swapping the IDE cables at the motherboard for the CD and the HDD to rule out the IDE controller.

Let us know if this corrects the problem. Also make sure the cable is seated properly.

Hi,

tried everything suggested- made sure HDD was set at Master and cd drive set to slave, bios was finding it drive but Windows was not-tried formatting and booting with startup disk- installed win 98 and had all sorts of windows protection errors!!

Spent many hours on this saturday night and sunday we finally managed to get it going!

Put a windows xp in cd drive set to 1st boot device- then installed without formatting

this seemed to resolve the problem!

very strange issue- never seen it before!

thanks for all ya help!!!
