Hi,

Whats the minimum required for this, have 3 2600s, 2 2500s and 2 2950 switches. Cisco phones not an issue... however software / licencing??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Lee

leedsit,
..not sure of your exact question..
....isnt this equipment/ios's/software only going into your lab environment?

Hi,

Sorry,

I want to build a Cisco IP Lab, studying for the Cisco CCVP certification, before I start I want to make sure this is not going to be too expensive to self study. I have the forementioned kit left over from my CCNP certification, however Im guessing I need specialisted ( Licenced ? ) software? either on a server or running on the cisco 2600?s.

LEEroy,
..so my guess is you want a Cisco CallManager server that runs on windows 2000, maybe a vg200, some 7910 ip phones, softphones and your previous hardware in the ccnp lab to implement QoS on.
....you first challenge will be getting a functional CCM server. Since this is only going into a lab environment i wouldnt necesarily worry about licesing. The important thing is to get the stuff and get it as cheap as possible right?
...so how did i get my CCM 4.1.
....i bought it off ebay for about 400.00. it was installed on a generic compaq prosignia server. The guy who sold it was not including the software. So what i did was imaged the harddrive and bought another prosignia server for about 50.00 and now i have two ccm servers to distribute through out my wan (in my lab).
...bottom line is...your going to have to lay down some "jack" to get this lab going..

..below are approximate prices on ebay from past experience
400.00 for ccm (if lucky)
75.00 for 7910 phone (you need atleast 2)
75.00 for softphone
125.00 for vg200
...i'm sure there is other stuff...
...hope this helps..sorry bout

Hi Daninatlanta,

thanks very much for the info, exactly what I wanted... Is there a version that runs just on A cisco Router ( express? ).

Its a little annoying cisco wont supply a 3 user license version, were putting in the effort to become certified in their product, youd think they would help..... maybe I should go the nortel Sig route...

thanks again, Lee

...yes the express version runs on the router..
..i have personally ran it on 3600...
...did i read somewhere it will run on a 2600??..hmmm maybee

....but since you are going for the ccvp..the ccm is a must
...if you plan on running this strictly in a lab i wouldnt worry about the lisence issue..something tells me you will be putting this in a production environment..

...when using express you will find a automatic setup function that will address dhcp, network, ect; but has a lot of limitations..

.....yes 4.0 ccm up and working would be great..
....but now you will either have to buy the cisco approved hardware or do registry hacks on a regular computer..mind you i never successfully was able to do this..(reg hack)
...there is a blog in tek-tips somewhere where they talk about this in a detailed fashion..

..if i was you i would email this guy... ...and see if he could
burn you a copy...since its going into your lab only..
..thats how you network...find someone who has already bought the item and see if they can cut you a deal...or see how they plan on getting the product to work..
