i have a customer who is running ccc5 with msde.
He has decided to replace the msde with sql 2000.
I have followed the manual regards the upgrade procedure
and obviously something has gone astray as we cant get any historic reports from the ccc.
I did a backup of the SDXArchiver using the database tool within ccc5 and this has created a backup file called SDXArchiver.bak
My question being,
How do i now restore that file into sql 2000 to be able to view the customers historic data

thanks in advance

Have you followed the following

The following steps will upgrade an installation of MSDE 2000 to SQL Server 2000.

Insert the SQL Server 2000 disk into your CD-ROM drive. If the compact disk does not auto run, double click Autorun.exe in the root directory of the compact disk.

Select SQL Server 2000 Components, select Install Database Server and then at the Welcome screen, click Next.

In the Computer Name screen, Local Computer is the default option and the local computer name appears in the edit box. Click Next.

In the Installation Selection screen, click Upgrade, remove or add components to an existing instance of SQL Server, and then click Next.

Enter the 25 digit CD-Key and click Next to continue.

In the Instance Name box, default will be selected, click Next. (When upgrading the existing installation of MSDE 2000 automatically becomes the default instance of the SQL Server 2000).

At the existing Installation screen, click Upgrade your existing installation and then click Next.

At the Upgrade screen, you are prompted as to whether you want to proceed with the requested upgrade. Click Yes, upgrade my SQL Server Tools and Data and then click Next.

At the Connect to Server screen, select the SQL Server System administrator login information (SQL Server authentication). Ensure the Enter sa Password field is empty and then click Next.

At the Start Copying Files screen, click Next.

In the Choose Licensing Mode dialog box select Processor License for and enter 1 if installing on a PC with one processor otherwise enter 2 if installing on a PC with 2 processors. Click Continue. The file installation process begins.

At the Setup Complete screen , click Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and then click Finish.

The SQL Server 2000 Components need to be installed now. Re-insert your SQL Server 2000 disk into your CD-ROM drive. If the compact disk does not auto run, double click Autorun.exe in the root directory of the compact disk.

Select SQL Server 2000 Components, select Install Database Server and then setup prepares the SQL Server Installation Wizard. At the Welcome screen, click Next.

At the Computer Name screen, Local Computer is the default option and the local computer name appears in the edit box. Click Next.

At the Existing Installation screen, click Add components to your existing installation and then click Next.

At the Select Components screen, select the required components. It is recommended that in addition to Server Component being selected that you have Management Tools and Client Connectivity options selected. Click Next to continue.

In Start Copying Files dialog box click Next and In the Setup Complete screen click Finish.

if you done the above then the sdx archiever should still be in place.

You could always uninstall, install msde, restore the database to the msde and then upgrade using the above

VoiceData has given you great instructions for upgrading. I have done a couple of these upgrades and they have gone well if you follow the instructions exactly. All of the historical data should be there if you followed the instructions so if it is not there, I would double check the installation of SQL 2000 first.

Fortunately, it sounds like you have created a backup of the database so you can restore it. SQL 2000 has a database management tool just like MSDE. If you haven't installed the management tools, go ahead and do that. Now go into the tool and you should see a restore option close to where you found the backup option. I don't have an instance of SQL 2000 in front of me so I can't give you more information. If you need more detail, let me know and I will remote into one of my customers running SQL 2000.

Hi Voiceondata

i have carried out the upgrade as you have outlined
the problem is i cant find a restore option in the database supervisor application in msde 2000 to restore the DB and in sql 2000,when you use the import/export wizard it does not seem to recognise the .BAK file extension of the DB backup that was done with the database supervisor wizard

Ho wdid you do the backup of the old data?

Take Care

Matt
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

if the selected upgrade during the process then the data should still be there.

In theory you shouldnt have to restore as the SDX Archiver database will still be in place.

Has anything else changed during the upgrade ???

in answer to the above questions
i backed up the DB using the wizard in MSDE
Nothing has changed on the IPO config before or after the upgrade

you should have backed up using the database supervisor program. then it would restore back in via the same program.

i would restore msde and go back through the process - Sorry :(

not that I know every thing about MSDE... but I don't know which wizard you mean. Can you providea link to the instructions you used?

There is a painfull way of doing the MSDE back up from the command line though...
