Hi All

I am trying to create a cascading parameter and coming across some strange results. Iam using CRxi Rel.1

My data source is sql 2005 and reporting from a view.

I have a field called 'zone' and each zone has numerous pages belonging to it, the field is called 'pagename'. Now what I want the user to be able to do is select a zone or zones and then respectively select the requested pages.

My report will be grouped by zone.

What I have currently done, I have opened a new report, put page name and zone in details section. Then grouped by zone. Done a count on pagenames per zone and placed in gh. Then created a new parameter, clicked on dynamic and entered text in 'prompt group text'. Select new, clicked on insert and selected zone. Below zone selected in the empty space and selected from list pagename and moved across and clicked under parameters to create parameter. Then gone to select expert and pointed zone field to the parameter.

This is where the problem starts as I am not getting back the desired result set.

Please can someone tell me where Iam going wrong???

Kindest Regards

The 'Select Expert' is intended for beginners and has limitations. You need to move to Report > Selection Formulas > Record. Maybe do a few test reports to get yourself familiar with the functions.

Well this is it I have created a report making the zone field as a dynamic cascading parameter and returning the count of pages and it comes back fine. As soon as I add the pagename field, firstly of one the zones disappears and the true count of pages does not back.

Is their a limitation on the number of values in the first parameter and second parameter?

Sorr, I don't follow. Please explain that again.

I believe that a total of 1000 values may be returned.

Hi All

I will explain again, I have created a report which is grouped into zones from a a zone field. The Zone field has 10 entries and each zone can have a number of pages allocated to it. The pages come from field paganame.

In the report I have in the details section I have placed the fields 'pagename' and 'zone'. Then grouped by zone and lastly count by pagename by zone, showing the number of pages belonging to each zone.

When I create a dynamic parameter soley reflecting the zone, it is all fine all 10 zones come back. Even the amount of pages allocated to each zone. I have selected the 'Allow mutilple', 'Allow discrete values' and 'Allow range values' and when tested under the different permutations it is all fine and coming back correct.

As soon as I try to create the above in a new report and then add a cascading parameter within the same parameter
allowing the same 'Allow mutilple', 'Allow discrete values' and 'Allow range values' the report is not expecting it. Firstly one of the zones is missing. Only 9 zones are being displayed.....Any ideas?

I will go on to the 2nd problem after this.

Many Thanks....I hope I have made sense.....

The first parameter list will be reduced to ensure that the combination of the first and second parameters never exceeds 1000.
