Caroot password will not change 1

Arcserve V9.01 w/patch 4a on Windows 2003 (no SP)
I cannot change the caroot password of one of my servers.

I know what the command is, I've used it before on other servers. And I know what the password is now. I do have local admin rights (I even tried doing it as the local administrator). Why won't it let me change the password????? Here's what happens:

D:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>ca_auth.exe -user chgpasswd caroot
Please enter old password:
OK
Please enter the password:
Please reconfirm the password:
Change password for user [caroot] failed ... reason : No permission for this operation

Any ideas?????

what are you logged into the BAB server as?
Does this account have equivalence to the caroot.

What is the output of the command...

D:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>ca_auth.exe -equiv getequiv

ca_auth.exe -equiv getequiv
Get equiv for debijo@fcxx failed ... reason : No equivalence exists for this user/host pair

I have tried logging into the server as myself (or as the local administrator). I'm not sure how to make me equivalent to caroot.

HI debi,

The correct syntax to add the equiv is..

D:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>ca_auth.exe -equiv add "ntusername" "hostname" caroot password

However, the short cut..

D:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>ca_qmgr -list

When you runthis command, you would be prompted to enable equivalence if there is none existing.

Just enter "y" .. hit return..
