I have 2 card readers in my Velocity micro tower, using XP Pro, and neither is recognized as a drive when i open my computer. There are no question marks or exclamation marks in my system folder. They used to show up as drives F and G, with my WD external showing up as H. (The WD is what I back up to each day and take offsite). Any suggestions as to where they went or how I can get them to show up? Thanks in advance.

Have you added any other USB items lately? I ask because, on my mobo the card reader has it's own dedicated port pins. If you use this port, the USB 1 port (on the back of the computer) is disabled. Unplug the other external USB devices, reboot, and see if the reader comes back.

They are internal and I rebbot every couple of days. However, I always leave one end of the USB cable plugged into the port even after I remove the external drive. This time I unplugged it as per micker77's suggestion and they are both showing up as f and g. Still do not completely understand why they do not work or show up when the external is plugged in to the port tho. But I can live with this. Thanks for the feedback folks. Appreciate it.

Curious.....I used to leave my USB camera cable plugged in but with nothing attached and no problems...in any case, looks like you got things working! :)

Could be that the computer is assigning the drive letters that are already used. I notice (on my test bench), that I have: A: (floppy) C: (HDD) D: (2nd partition on HDD) E: (CD). When I plug in a USB drive, it becomes D:, and E: 2nd) F: (CD).

yes I've noticed similar on my XP Pro sp2 athlon system. Finally got my drives in order too. Every time I installed/repalced a hard drive the letters changed. So it was like C: HDD, D: CD, E: 2nd HDD, or sometimes G:, H:. Now it's C:, hard drive D: 2nd hard drive, and E: is the optical drive. :) yay!
