capture device offline problem with premier pro

Hi,

I have used Premier in the past and not had a problem with it, but this time, I plugged my DV camera (panasonic) in through my firewire and it doesn't seem to get properly recognized. The firewire port is fine, in my harware profiles the camera and the ports appear in good working order with no conflicts. However, whenever I go to capture so that I can import my video files it tells me that my capture device is offline.

I have been reading troubleshooting guides and forums and have heard that there are problems with this and the windows XP SP2, but cannot determine if this is true or how to really fix it...I don't have a rollback point before the service pack install to test it out.

i have the same kind of problem. My firewire was working fine for capture and to put back onto tape from premiere. Now all of a sudden the PC does not recogninze my camera when i use the firewire. I also have XP. I think it might be a problem with my camera but i have no idea where to start.
