Caption/Figure numbering problem 1

Hi,

I am writing a report in Word 2003. I am using Heading Styles for the different sections and using Outline numbering. I am using "Include Chapter number" for captions of figures.

Figure 2-1
Figure 2-2
However on one of the chapters the number doesn’t appear, but instead a 0 does.
It looks like this

Figure 0-1
Figure 0-2

The rest of the numbering works fine, it’s just the captions for the figures.

Why is this and how do I fix it?

For purposes of this illustration, I assume you used the Heading 1 style for the chapter headings.

First, select (highlight) a chapter heading from a chapter that has correct caption numbering.

Now, place your cursor at the end of the style name Heading 1 in the Style window on the toolbar. You can do this by executing two single clicks (pause between) to the right of the style name.

Press Enter.

Make sure Update the style to reflect recent changes is selected.

Click OK.

Ctrl-A (select entire document)

F9 (update all field codes)

I'm having the same problem, and applied the fix by dcompto. It did not work. Any other suggestions.

The numbers all updated when I printed the report. I think I got around this by print previewing - or actully printing but canceling the job before it hit the paper.

Just following up.

May I ask which chapter was doing this? The orignal post stated "one of the chapters". The number 5 prior suggests that it was the fifth section. Could you confirm, and if so, what is the section break between Section 4 and Section 5?

All page numbering is a property of the Section, and is contained within the HeaderFooter of that section.

The rest of the numbering works fine, it’s just the captions for the figures.

Does that mean figure captions, after the 0 numbered section, are correct?
