Can't Write to USB Memory Stick Using BartPE

I'm sorry I can't provide the exact error message, but I was trying to save someone's data by copying it from a malfunctioning hard drive to a 2GB USB memory stick in the BartPE boot disk environment. It would not allow any files to be copied from the HDD to the stick - something about write protected. I looked at the properties of the stick and it wasn't write protected. I couldn't copy anything to it from any available drive.

Any ideas???
