Cant start up a 9.2 DB ;get Ora 01571

First I could not log into the DB as a Sys DBA but I got around it by adding user to NT group now it wont start up all the way it brings up ORA-01571 redo version .2 incompatible with vesion 8.17. The database states its version as 9.2 the client is 9.2 so I dont understand. The other 2 DB start up fine.

Edit the init<SID>.ora file and assign the correct value to the COMPATIBLE parameter.

Make this parameter the same as the database version.
