We have a client whose sql server will not start. We've tried starting from the service manager, it just won't start. We tried starting it through enterprise manager, and it gives the message connection failded - check sql server connection properties. Does anyone have any ideas?

What error message are you getting in the event viewer or the SQL Server Error Log? You might want to verify that the account you are using for the SQL Server Service has the correct password.

Hope this helps.

You probably had it set to start using the servers admin password and someone changed the password.

Go to servicies look at how the server is logging on to the system. Then fix the password if needed.

If this is not it more info on the exact error message would be helpful. Type looking in the NT event logs.

We've fixed the pasword, and I think that that is working. The event log has events with a code of 17055, but I don't know where to find out what that means.

I'm sorry this is so sketchy - I'm having to get this info over the phone, so I'm not very clear what's going on myself.

Thanks,
Sarah

Can you get a screenprint or something of the error message. Something with the exact wording. The 17055 is a generic message having many meanings.

Thank you.

Is it possible that the version being used is on trial? After the trial period it will refuse to start. The error log will so indicate.
