can't silence modem 1

My dial-up is quite noisy and I've tried to silence the modem with configure in the dial-up properies to no avail. Anybody like to share knowledge on this dark secret...would greatly appreciate the silent log-on.

There is about three places that that can be done.
The connections part of internet options and configure modem, modem itself has a place to slide the volume to zero. I think there is one more, but not using my modem (have DSL)I cant remember the third place.
 
I've seen either &M0 and &S0 do the trick

this is set in the advanced settings for the modem I believe.

Please note that the last character in either string is a numeric zero, not the letter O
 
ATM0 should be entered if the others do not work. Right-click my computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager, expand your Modems, right-click on your listed modem, go to properties, advanced, and in the "Extra initialization string" box..enter:
ATM0
Pbxman
Systems Administrator

Go to the volume bar for the PC, click options, then properties, there is an option for phone line in there if the other things didn't work. I had this issue at work where the modem was completely quiet when I would dial out to the endusers ISP. The volume bar took care of it. Laterz
 
The ATM0 command string did the trick,[thumsup] finally thanks to everyone who resoonded I tried them all Thanks.
