I built a backup server using a old box and loaded it with a copy of 2000 Advance server and joined it to our 2003 domain.
The d drive volume is shared as the D$ (normal default). When I make a folder and share it, none of the desktop users can see it.
I have checked all the permissions and everyone has full control.

Can you see it from a workstation or if it just your users that can't?

Is your share name D$?

what jeff is saying have u put a $ sign in front of the shared folder ??? if u have u need to remove it and share it again with permisions u want

hope it helps

It's the same each time with progress. First they ignore you, then they say you're mad, then dangerous, then there's a pause and then you can't find anyone who disagrees with you.

By default it is shared as a hidden share (D$), I changed it to just D and gave everyone permission (full control). But noone, even me as a domain admin can see it. Could it be caused by it being a advance 2000 server(member server on domain) and we are running a 2003 AD domain?

Thanks everyone in advance!

The D$ share is a special admin share and should be left hidden. Try creating a new folder on the volume and sharing that.

use the management console (rightclick mycomputer> manage) and look at the shares that are on your server...

then, with explorer, have a look what it is sharing 'publicly' by typing the server's url: \\MyServer

the ones you see in the console that have a $ at the end aren't visible, can you see the ones without a $ ?

Aftertaf
if its not broken, fix it anyway - with luck you might break it and have an excuse
