We have two locations which share the same domain. When we go to "My network Places" at one location, the computers at the other location are not in the list! Network connection is good because we can ping the computers at the other location.

thanks in advance

Can you open windows explorer and manually type in \\otherserver ? Glen A. Johnson

yes. I can also use the "manage" console to connect and manage the computers at the other location. I can also log on the machines that are at the other location; the only domain controller is here. It seems to be a problem only with "My netw. places"

You need one WINS server in each location and configure them as replication partners, if you want they to see each other.
If you don´t do that, you can´t see the other location´s machine from your´s, but you don´t need to see them for everything work OK.

Interesting!

Just out of curiosity, I would love to know why you need one WINS server in each location? How does this enable the machines in the other domain to be seen...

Thanks for the info! [ponytails2]

GrnEyedLdy, I'm with you. I have two wins servers in-house and I still had the problem. pollux0, ipconfig /all from both sides and compare them. Same subnet? Glen A. Johnson

this is a browsing issue. You need to find out what servers are acting as Domain Master browser,Master Browser, and Backup Browser. Then determine which one is having difficulty getting a list and why....BROWSTAT is a great tool for this...

The wierd thing was that the servers have been at the other location for about 2 weeks now. We were able to browse the servers at the other site using "my network places" for the last 2 weeks! All of a sudden we came in this morning unable to browse using "my network places". We have one Domain controller, Dhcp, and DNS all here at home base and nothing at the other location; just a few web servers. We have never set up any RRAS, VPNs,or WINS on our domain.

Ipconfig: subnets on both lans have always and still are 255.255.255.0. both sites are using the same DNS boxes which again are at the home base.

Same thing happened to my network. Only, it fixed itself. Don't know what happened, but I'd follow Brontosaures advice. Glen A. Johnson

I have never heard of "Domain Master browser,Master Browser, and Backup Browsers" CAn you explain further what they are and their function in my domain. If it does fix itself...what happened and why?

thanks

Make sure the W2K pro machines have browsing turned off in services also. Forgot about that until I installed a new 2k pro this morning. Couldn't join the domain until I did this. Good luck. Glen A. Johnson
