Can't Restart Exchange After PDC rebuild

We have a small site, with a W2k AD Controller, and a second AD controller which has Exchange 2000 on it. We had to rebuild the other AD controller (the non echange). Before doing so, we demoted it. After reinstalling it, joining the domain, and promoting it, the Exchange 2000 server will not start. It has all kinds of event ids, perhaps the most telling is that the M: drive is not present, and the virtual folders cannot be located. When we bring up the system manager and check the properties for the server, the mail and public folder stores are down, and all actions are greyed out. We think there is something about the references to the exchange server that were lost when the one server was rebuilt, but have no idea what to do. The file structure is here, we have only one exchange server. We haven't been able to get anywhere reinstalling, and, now, we can't seem to initiate an uninstall, as it complains about missing something in the active directory. Sheesh! Can anybody suggest anything?

Thanks,

FYI, we got this working again. Seems like two additional things needed to have been done: 1. Set the reverse DNS forwarder. 2. Check the Global Catalog checkbox for one of the two AD controllers. I don't know why the DNS settings weren't propagated to the second AD server when it was promoted and it would be nice if the importance of the Global Catalog setting was more obvious
