can't remove or uninstall software that has uninstall software...

Hmmm,
First you should really uninstall (and install) programmes one at a time and then reboot your machine.
I would try reininstalling the programmes (all in one go) that you have uninstalled and then boot to dos and restore your regisrty from yesterday or te day before (basically a good copy from the previous few days).
Then (hopefully) when you reboot you can uninstall your programmes one at a time.

try running a disk cleanup and scandisk and defrag perferably from safemode, also check your system out goto my computer then open c: drive and make sure you dont have alot of files in the root directory like file000*.chk
alot of files can cause this kind of error along with low disk space

well buckeye i did all that and it still gives me the ,
Unable to create temporary file. setup aborted.
error 5 access is denied.
What else could it be....i deleted a few of my kids games and they went no problem, but i tried to delete Mailwasher , and a msn messenger, and a few other programs threw add/remove programs and that error still comes up....help me please.......

With people like Win98User and Buckeye on the job, you shouldn't really need me to chip in on this one, but I recall seeing cross-linked files doing something quite similar.
In this instance I agree with what has already been suggested and would add that a SFC might help, it certainly seems to be a system integrity problem. Go to START>RUN> type in SFC>hit ENTER>SCAN FOR ALTERED FILES>START. This will scan the original system files for the OS and may come up with a file corruption message and solution.
Another suggestion I have requires you to boot to real DOS (without windoze loaded), press F8 whilst booting and select "command prompt only". At the prompt type in SCANDISK>hit ENTER. This will scan for cross-linked files.
Just to re-iterate what Win98User stated earlier, you should only uninstall 1 application at a time and reboot. You should do this via the applications own uninstall feature or if not available, via Windoze uninstall feature accessed via ADD/REMOVE in CONTROL PANEL.

Hi machoosh1,
You say you tried to retsore the registry but still had the same problem.
Had you tried to install all the programmes first as I suggested?
Also, I would imagine that it might be helpful to list all the programmes that you uninstalled to give us an idea of the scope of the problem.

I doubt that you've tried a clean install, because if you had and you still have the problem, then it follows that you either got bad hardware or a duff Windoze CD.
The REGEDIT way is to firstly backup your registry via FILE>EXPORT commands. Now go to EDIT>FIND and type in the name of the programmes (individually of course)in a variety of ways e.g. Freeserve might be the name or FSERVE or FS, ensure that you've checked KEYS, DATA AND VALUE. Now search from H_KEY_CURRENT_USER onwards and remove every instance for KEY & VALUE, and change the dialogue of every DATA (if they exist).
Repeat for every programme in every format you can think of and with any luck, in a few hours time, you may have deleted them. If your PC totally screws up, boot to DOS (normally press F8 on boot and choose COMMAND option) and type in SCANREG /RESTORE at the prompt and hit ENTER. Then choose a date when it was working OK from the five listed.

Norton 2003 did that to me after I tried uninstalling it. I used Jouni Vuorio's RegCleaner to clean up a bunch of crap, then manually trashed all folders and files, ran RegCleaner again, then ran Karen's Registry Pruner and removed the entires from the Add/Remove programs list.
Keep in mind we did this just long enough to backup up everything essential, and then we performed a clean install.
(My machine must be perfect!!!)
...This is really the "last resort" option, so don't do this unless everyone else is STUMPED and gives up.
Also, maybe Windows Messenger could be removed using 'Windows Setup' Tab, instead of 'Install/Uninstall' Tab, being a system component, technically? (I don't use Messenger, so I couldn't check)

One application that goes un-noticed is Marketscore (formerly netsetter). This installs with some versions of AOL. The typical way to know if it was installed is to run a find for the file NSCHECK.EXE. Usually in the C:\windows\system folder. If it is there, you want to uninstall it. To do so, open a command prompt and go to the c:\windows\system folder:
Win98-ME type: nscheck /uninstall
W2k - XP type: nscheck -uninstall
