Can't remove non-existant domain controller

Greetings all, I have a domain controller I would like to elminate as the server no longer exists and the domain is managed by another system. The problem is that I can't seem to delete it from active directory, it gives me the error:

The DSA Object can not be deleted

I need to delete it so i can upgrade exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003.

Any tips?
