I have xp pro on, I can't remove the legacy audio drivers...i've downloaded the latest drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, all the updates that exist for XP, and tried removing them with onboard sound enabled and disabled under bios.

under the device manager, they show, but no "uninstall" appears when I right click. properties shows blank when I tried to check that to look for "stealth conflicts".

obviosly my next MB will be one with NO onboard sound, if such a thing exists these days, but in the meantime, I'm ready to start chewing the lamination of my pc desk.

I am now grovelling.

Aren't they just something XP installs - your actual soundcard drivers are as well? Are they actually causing a problem?

I've tried it with a couple different sound cards, removing the previous soundcard driver and installing fresh (with newest downloaded drivers) the other cards. most recent, soundlbaster live! 5.1

same problems, certain programs give me hashed sound and/or simply crash (programs are updated and patched already too).

xp occassionally says there was a crash because of a driver, and as i've had this problem with different video cards, I'm leaning towards a sound driver problem (particularly when taking into account the sound glitches some programs get before Going To See Elvis)

I ran into the same problem. My XP Pro would not recognize the microphone, would not allow me to uninstall and then reinstall the Legacy Audio Drivers. The sound card drivers were unable to activate the microphone input.

I did try uninstalling the sound card and removing it completely, thinking a fresh install would correct the Legacy Driver problem. Even with no sound card I could not uninstall the Legacy Audio Drivers.

I finally gave up and bought a USB Microphone. It is working fine for now.

Is there a way to run Lotus 97 on Windows XP?

Thanks!
