Thanks for the suggestion - it is a sensible one.
However it turned out that there was a network communication problem with the laptop and the printer - resolution. The laptop was not able to communicate with the printer due to some strange DNS Resolution issue. I could ping the printer, but the setup was a network install. I did a local printer install and created a network port using the priner IP address to get them talking.
