I'm using Xp Pro and I was trying to remotley view my dvr camera's from another ip address. (I can view them on my local network)When I use the remote software the operation times out. When I try to ping my address from another ip it also times out. I was using a linksys router(wrt54g)I set the ip of the dvr machine in the dmz and it still didn't work.I next tried to bypass the router altogether and I still have the same problem. The dvr machine has Norton 2003 and MS spyware software along with spyware blaster and spybot search and destroy. The firewall is turned off.Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem would be greatley appreciated.

Thank you

Terry

If you are going through a router, they probably have ICMP turned off so you might not be able to ping.
Norton recommends letting it be the firewall and not XP. Check your settings for the XP firewall. I had to manually turn mine off. You might also try doing a trace route. I think the command is tracert xxx where xx = IP address.

Hope this helps

Can you do an IPconfig of the 2 machines. They should give you 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x anything else may point to the issue (if it is anything else e.g 80.80.x.x) don't print the full address, may leave you wide open.

I can do ipconfig on both machines and get the internal ips of each. I would try portwarding but Im not sure which port the device is using.

Thanx for the help
