Hi,

I'm using Windows NT as my DNS server in my LAN...so, why can't ping my Linux server by its hostname. Why can't my DNS server recognize my Linux? I'm able to ping using IP address. I editted both /etc/hosts & /etc/sysconfig/network as hostname.example.com. I don't want to install Samba (security risk). I'm eventually moving to Windows 2003 Active Directory. Will this help to recognize Linux by its hostname?

Thank you for any advance!

T.k.

If your NT box is set up as a DNS server, then I presume that you have entered a DNS entry for the Linux server on the NT server?

Chris.
