I can not access web pages such as on my Win XP Pro computer (SP2) unless I plug in the IP address of the site. Any helpful advice is appreciated.
I think it is DNS relates (obviously), but I can not solve the issue. I have tried to ipconfig -flushdns, and to release and renew the ip config but this has not resolved anything.
I did an nslookup, and to my horror it gave 10.0.0.2
I am now on a 192... workgroup with the Inet Router providing DHCP services. I have tried to set the dns to be the dns that the router uses and also to the dns of the router - no luck.
I am not so hot with the nslookup so If anyone can tell me how to change it from 10.0.0.2 to something useful please help me out.

How did you do the nslookup? Were you trying to lookup google?

start, run, cmd, nslookup
Thats it, without anything else, and it gives my old routers ip address of 10.0.0.2
If I type in nslookup google.com it will not find anything

I have also tried winsockfix.exe as well as removing and reinstalling tcp/ip

How long has this been going on? Have you tried turning the computer off for 5 minutes and re-starting it? Anything in your logs showing errors?

Change the IP address of the DNS server to that of your ISP and then do an nslookup and post the output here. It looks like you cannot use your router as a DNS server.

The problem has been going on for 2 weeks (so it has been off for hours at a time).
I have tried to use the IP address of the ADSL Name Server as my DNS server and it is listed when I do IPCONFIG -ALL (along with a static IP address), as well as using the automatically assigned IP address etc from the router. But it does not seem to matter what these settings are - I have tried everything here (and I have been troubleshooting DNS and domain problems for years, so for me this is a real problem if I cant solve it in 2 weeks!)
If i do a nslookup for google.com or etc it will give me the following error message from the cmd console; DNS request timed out. timeoout was 2 seconds

Further info:
I have looked at all the processes running and all are ok
I have loged on as a different administrator and can still not access the Internet normally
I am using Kasperskys AV, Ad-Aware, Spybot - search and destroy, and MS's new antispyware effort (no problems here).
I am on a workgroup, not a domain.
The only change is the router and the network changing from a 10... to a 192...
I have also trawled threw the security settings and services and changed things like dns client startup, computer browser and so on.

Thanks for the input so far,

Well, I sorted it by doing a search in the registry for the ip address that was configured as the name server, and deleting it!!! Don't know what program changed the name server in the registry, but it is sorted anyway.

In short: My 200GB (and a 250GB one)DiamondMax Plus 9 hard drives show as 32GB and I cant see all of my files. The drives have partitions. I have XP Pro SP2.

How can I get my files from the drives or use them with the files on them? It is not a jumper problem or anything stupid!

Full version:
I reciently built a new computer (motherboard, CPU, 2 SATA Raid 0, new DVD RW...). I had a lot of stuff on my old system (over 500GB) - far too much to backup - even to DVD. So I backed up my essentials, but left a lot of stuff on my 2 big Maxtor drives (a 200GB and a 250GB drive).

I presently have an 80GB hard drive and a 2 x 200GB raid 0 array. Windows XP Pro SP2 fully up to date.

When I inserted the 2 big drives into my new system, both appeared as 32GB drives. In the lower pain of the Disk Management console the drives appeared as 200 and 250.

I ran a program called big drive enabler (big_drive_enabler.exe), that I downloaded from the maxtor site, but there was no change after rebooting several times. I tried to use MaxBlast 4 for windows but it wanted to format the hard drive, and was of no use to me. The dos version was no use either. The Maxblast 4 tool also tried to say the drives were Fat16. They are both NTFS.

If I had known that the drives could not simply be plugged into a new system I would never have got them. It is not as if Maxtor ship the drives with these tools either!

Does anyone know how I can get my files from the 2 drives or enable them on my new system without reformatting them?
