For some reason on my one nw5 box, the users can't open documents that are more than a year old? I have run vrepair thinking that maybe something flaky with the volume, dsrepair in case rights got flaky also , and virus checked it. Not sure what else to try. If you rebooted the server then you can access those docs again but after about a week, then you no longer can access them. Anyone have any ideas? Oh server has been patched with the latest.

Sounds like a File Caching problem maybe?

At the server console, type SET FILE CACHING ENABLED = OFF and see if that makes any difference

It would be good to know what the server is reporting as available resources when this problem is happening. Is it possible that the resources are fine at first but are somehow leaking and eventually it is unable to handle requests.

Also, can you check your licensing and make sure it's not corrupt or that you're not exceeding your allowed connections.

Also, do you get any specific error when accessing the files? Can you copy them locally and then open them?

is it 5 or 5.1

where is you filesys being loaded from - nwserver or the sys

not sure on 5 but i've seen this on 5.1 around the service pack 2 level the location of filesys moved from being loaded from sys:system to being loaded from nwserver

check the version of this and make sure it's the correct date and place - also verify that if there are 2 copies of it that they are the same version

Ok, I went ahead and turned of the file caching. Just to see if that does help.

The resources seem to be fine. When I looked at the server last night they were fine but it was having a problem accessing files. I also found that it could not find rconag6 when I tried to reload it. So I went ahead and checked what the error msg is when you try to open an old docs. "The document name or path is not valid." Just for giggles I tried to run nwadmn32, got "insufficient resources". Ended up rebooting the server, then of course all is fine and the resources were about the same as before the reboot.

Filesys.nlm is being loaded from nwserver. I checked the version against other nw5 boxes and it is at the same ver and date. On the novell site it mentioned memory leaks with filesys and said to update using the filesys3.exe. I could not find this file to see if I have the updated file.

So what do you guys think? Resource leak or maybe corruption happening?
All help is appreciated!
