cant map network drive

since upgrading a pc on the network to xp, i am unable to map a network drive...i can access the folders/files when browsing the network..but cant map?!! the permissions on the server are correct, no probs there? any help appreciated..thanx

I do not know what error messages honeypot is getting but am having the same problem.

I am new to XP (rather use 2000) so have no idea what is going on. Here is what I have:

NT4.0 Domain
2 - XP computers

Both computers can see domain and access files off domain server. 1 - XP computer can see other XP computer but cannot access any of the shares off first computer. If they look into the Network Neighborhood, they see the shares on the other computer but get access denied if they want to get into it. At same time if they try to map a drive to the share (using a username off the second computer or a domain username) they get an error message that the share is already mapped using a different username/domain. There are NO mapped drives.

Any ideas why XP is telling me that a drive is already mapped when there is NO mapped drives?

lanceja - so both XP machines belong to domain and are logged onto domain? And shares concerned (and their underlying filestore) have got correct security permissions to make them accessible? And nothing else is 'accessing' those shares (eg, logon script?)

i think the problem with the machine that i was using was that the xp operating system seemed to have "doubled up" on both the c and d drives! has anyone come across this one before?

When you are given the option to logon as a different user rather than to just logoff.

just go through
Start Meny > Settings > Control Panel > User Account
user account window is opens
there is 3 options

1. Cange an Account
2. Create a New Account
3. Change the way user log on or off

then click 3rd options Change the way user lon on or off
the user accound window redircts to select logon window
in that click Logon Options on the left side of the window
pobably you'll get some help there

You might be running into a problem with the fact that for a NET USE command, or by a mapping choice, the persistant flag for a share is being set to yes.
