I have completed setting up a new server, installed SP1 and other updates.

When I run winnt32 /cmdcons from the CD I get an error message about trying to use an old version of windows, but I can't find a newer version of winnt32 in the \386 folder left by SP1

It might just be wirth trying to run the recovery console from the CD to see if it still runs OK.

I am not aware of the problem but this might be a temporary work around until a proper answer can be given.

Someone else always has a better answer!

Thanks Mike, but just to clarify, I am trying to install the recovery console, rather than run it.

I got that but i thought it would be worth checking that you can actually run it against the SP1 installation from the CD as an interim measure.

I will have a scout around for and info on the problem you have actually got as well.

I have booted from the 2K3 CD and can run the recovery console & commands OK

Try to install the recovery console from the i386 directory on the w2k3. May work, may not.

Yes, that was what I tried the first time, the winnt32.exe file is the same version as the one on the 2K3 install CD, and I assume that somewhere there should be a newer version, but I don't know how to get hold of it.
