When I go to install the IIS component on XP Pro, setup cannot complete because of missing files. I am using an original XP Pro CD and the SP1 files downloaded separately. The files setup is requesting is 'admxprox.dll'. I've searched the SP1 and XP CD for this file to no avail. Does anyone know why this would be occurring.

It sounds as if your underlying version of XP is the Home edition.

The file 'admxprox.dll' is located in \i386 as admxprox.dl_
in the Pro release, but is unavailable in Home.

Definently have the Pro version. I've seen that file in the \I386 dir. Do you know any reason why setup would be stopping and asking for the file. Almost as if setup can't read it.

Here is my guess:

Somewhere along the way the installation of SP1 was done through a "slipstream", and you do not have the files in a directory it is expecting: \Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386.

Try pointing to the orginal \i386 directory on the original CD. You may be prompted more than once, but it should install.

You could try ignoring the error, then do an expand in order to uncompress and install the appropriate missing files in c:\windows\system32.

It works now. What I ended up doing was inserting my XP CD and then clicking on the I386 directory, then 'add windows components'. Setup of IIS did ask for a couple of files but managed to find them on the SP1 I had in a separate dir. Thanks your your help.
