OUCH! Down for the count...:(

i installed a web server and it killed my os
i can't boot to windows even in safe
i get a blue screen with no icons and a error box for major fault error

nothing works even after scanreg /fix and scandisk /all

so i guess i need system disks and backups right

any other fixes out there?

PTT :(

my blue screen is not the blue screen of death
it is the wall paper when i boot with no menus or icons

have you tried restoring the registry?
or re-installing windows?
and before you try those, post the error (if you can) and I can take a look at it.

Princess, can you not get into safe mode by pressing like crazy the F8 key right after the BIOS has done loading.
Normally when on the top of the screen it says : Windows Starting ...
You have to be fast sometimes, just keep hitting the key just after BIOS boot. The solution is out there. [morning]

Hi

I had to build a computer to talk to you on. I was writing you from a class I teach.

my cdrom is down on that computer I was I killed with the pws

i tried to do the registry thing and that didn't work

umm

I tried booting in safe and it came up with no icons my wall paper shows and that page fault error

it's a dialog box saying you can close or debug or see details

the error is unfortunately explorer.exe

I can't restore from my usb read write because dos doesn't see it.

so i guess i have to take this apart and get a good cdrom and just reinstall everything.

i mean i wish i could "fix" explorer.exe

ptt :)

If there is any data on it, back it up and re-install, I think that will be the cleanest option.
Reboot in Safe Command Prompt mode, same procedure but choos esfae command prompt only.
You can then navigate through the directories in 'DOS' mode. The solution is out there. [morning]

Did you just do Scanreg/fix or Scanreg/restore as well?

yeah, sure of course I tried both scanreg /fix and /restore
didn't work
i have already rebuilt everything and installed the new pws that sits on the system from the c/options/cabs/pws folder that compaq puts on their original restore

so I'm back up and relatively happy
i had backed up most of my stuff prior
so I'm ok.

and I do know my way well around command prompt with dos as I had to save files many times off clients computers who's bad sw had "eaten" their windows.

thanks again :)
