Display settings are stuck on 16 colours, when I try to change back to 256, get a message to restart for changes to take effect. After restart comes up in safe mode where the settings can't be changed. When I open in normal mode, get message "There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware" - so I'm stuck with unuseable graphics.
Anyone who can help is my new hero...

There may be other CD's that came with your system for the graphics card.

Try this:
Right-click on the desktop, choose properties, click the Settings button, then the Advanced button, then the Adapter tab. Is this correct? If not, click the Change button and select it from the list. Now click the Monitor button. Is this correct? If not, click the change button and if your brand doesn't appear in the list, choose the Super VGA 800x600 under (Default Monitor Types)

After rebooting, go back and chage the slider to a higher screen area setting, click Apply, themn OK.

You may have to reboot, then go back a 3rd time and increase the Colors. you should now have it back.

Thank for responses guys, the Adapter is correct, monitor is correct, video-card drivers are re-installed, still only 16 colours.

Hello, luckyy.

In the Device Manager, click out the Advanced Power Management. Under the General Tab, check the box "Disable in this user profile." Then reboot and logon the same user, see if you can set the color.

If yes, you may then consider remove the APM and let the system reinstall it.
If not, you too may consider the same. The first disabling is trying to play safe.

Also, toggle APM setting in bios as an additional testing.

Hey tsuji, could you explain how to get to the APM section in the device manager, I 've just got the 'view devices by type' and 'view devices by conection' list, can't seem to find what your reffering to, cheers

Hello again.

[1] My Computer|Control Panel|System|Device Manager
[2] Radiobullet : View Device by Types
[3] Expand : System Devices
[4] Advanced Power Management, click the Properties button.
