This is a silly little thing, but it's real annoying.

I know that to put the "logoff" option back on the start menu when it's in Windows classic, you need to go into taskbar properties, customize, then Advanced Start Menu Options and check the box "Display Logoff"

The only problem is that I don't have an option for Display Logoff! Makes it hard to check........

Has anybody run into this? I would like to put a logoff item right above "shutdown" like it was in Windows 98. I know it worked in class and I don't see anything on Microsoft's site about this

It's a Compaq Evo desktop if that makes any difference. JL Filler,Wilton Public Schools, Wilton CT

I _think_ that the logoff button above the Shutdown button in Windows 98 (and indeed in any Windows OS - NT4 for example) was actually put there by an installation of IE 4, but in later versions (IE 5 and later) this feature - a part of the "Active Desktop" upgrade - was removed.

Sorry, that doesn't exactly solve your problem.

In short though, given XP comes with IE6 installed, I doubt you'll be able to get it back.

Are you talking about Home or Pro? I'm positive that the checkbox should be there for a standard install of XP Pro but I'm not sure about Home.

Here's what you can check out to see if anything helps.

It is XP Professional. I don't have any policies set. Makes sense that it goes away with IE6 -- I think I installed that when I did a Windows Update.

Aaaargh! I'll look into the policies. I don't know why they have to make this so hard, except just because they can......

Thank you one and all for your help. I'll repost if I can figure it out. JL Filler,Wilton Public Schools, Wilton CT
