Ive configured a line on my 2500 cisco and now when i do sh line it doesnt show with an aterix next to it which suggests its not connected - any ideas as to what to try ?

Hi Max,

The asterisk in "show line" output denotes whether a line is in use or not.
For example if you telnet to your router you will see a VTY line with an asterisk next to it. What type of line have you configured? VTY AUX?

Cheers,
Phil.

Hi phil the output from sho line is :

7 TTY 9600/9600 - printer - - - 0 0 0/0

Its a tty line.
Does this help ?

ok, what's your set-up? you've got an async card in your router connected to a printer?

can you paste the config for the line and the async port?

Cheers, Phil.

Not sure how you look at the async line ? Sorry feel really stupid.

Don't start feeling daft max. It's just you don't know... yet ;o)

You can get a summary of async lines...

show async status

and detailed info on an async interface...

show interface async xx

where xx is the interface number you're interested in. To show the configuration for the lines / async interfaces, type "show running-config" and cut and paste the line entry and async interface sections here.

Cheers,
Phil.

Cut and paste the config lines for line 7 and the associated async interface.

If everything is coming your way then you're in the wrong lane.

ICOMS_TEST_ROUTER#sho async status
Async protocol statistics:
Rcvd: 0 packets, 0 bytes
0 format errors, 0 checksum errors, 0 overrun, 0 no buffer
Sent: 0 packets, 0 bytes, 0 dropped

no activation-character
modem Printer
autocommand 10.2.2.101 4006 /stream
escape-character NONE

flowcontrol hardware

could (possibly) be all or one (or none) of...

1. the port number is incorrect.. try 4007 (4000 + decimal equivalent of the line number)instead of 4006.

2. Flow control for some printers is Xon/Xoff

3. the line is tied up in an exec session.
conf t
line 7
no exec

good luck.

Hi ive tried all this and still no sucess.

Does a line when active (ie displaying aterik) only display this once data has been sent through it ?
or does it go live automatically when the line it configured to telnet with an autcommand and is successful ?

Hope this makes sense as my config settings are the same on my test as on live and the connection still shows as inactive.

Im at a total loss now and have tried everything suggested here.
