Bit mysterious here.

I have a Win2k server machine that is stand alone - I'm using it for testing / practicing setting up, but it won't pick up an IP address from a Linksys router.

I have just one of the 2 NICs enabled, TCP/IP installed, set to use DHCP, but it just won't.

If I enter the IP address for the router manually, I can get into the router, so connectivity etc is OK at least to the router, if not beyond.

Any ideas? The machine is just configured as a member of a workgroup, no ad. It was on a domain, but I've reset all that.

Event viewer just repeatedly reports that it wasn't assigned an address, event 1001 - I have reset the router, and it is picking up the ISP address OK. It is giving an address to another computer too, so all looks OK.

Ipconfig shows 0.0.0.0, and ipconfig /renew says it can't reach a dhcp server.

I'm missing something . .

OK, got it.

Had MS ISA firewall installed. I had disabled it, but I guess it had disabled some necessary service. Uninstalled and we're up and running.
