Cant get an insertion point to come up!

I have designed a page with DW4, with several nested tables. Everything seems to be working properly except when I try to make an insertion point into one of the tables it won't work. It just stays with the handles on it and won't do anything else! What can I do? Is there another way to make an insertion point? Are my tables too small and close together? Is there some special trick to making an insertion point like "shift-Clicking or what? I have spent a lot of time with the basic design and would hate to have to start over, please someone let me know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!
