Can't Format cells in Excel

I did a google search trying to resolve a problem that I had formatting cells in an excel document that pointed me to this site. I did not find a solution, so I thought I would post this tip after I eventually resolved this myself. If you click on a cell in an excel document that is locked you will not be able to format it. You must copy all the data from the locked document to your clipboard, you must then close the document, open a new document and paste the data. Once this is done you should have all your formatting options.

First welcome to Tek-Tips.

If a Worksheet is PROTECTED, then you cannot change cells that are LOCKED.

You must first UNPROTECT the sheet in order to change to the formatting.

[/tt]
If you cannot UNPROTECT the sheet then you must do what you have described.

Appreciate the welcome. There was no way to unprotect or unlock the spreadsheet I had tried everything. Hopefully this tip will help the next poor soul before he or she wastes an hour of their life like I did.

what do you mean by "There was no way to unprotect or unlock the spreadsheet I had tried everything."? Do you mean that there was no protection applied? Or do you mean that you couldn't find the appropriate command for unprotecting a sheet? Or do you mean that there was a password applied and that you didn't have the password?
