We have Symantec Antivirus Corp. and some of the machines on our system gave a warning of a virus on a particular host. When I tried to scan the host the scan would not open. I tried to open task manager and it closes immediatly after I open it. Same with msconfig. I then tried to run an emergangy repair off of the win2k disk and it did not help. I got the virus scan to run by right clicking on the hard drive and starting scan, but it did not find the virus. I know the definitions are up to date. I then tried a registry repair to noavail. So I decided to reformat and reinstall.Is there another way to fix this problem without reloading windows? If anyone has any ideas I could use some help.

You did a lot of work, sorry you didn't post here first, I think it could have been worked out.
Get the name of the virus, go to symantec.com, click downloads, then removal tools, and search out the name of the virus.
You can also boot to safe mode, and scan there.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
