I have an XP pro machine in a workgroup, it is running SP2.

In My computer or Explorer I can dispaly the properties of the root drive but not of any sub folder.

I right click on a sub folder and nothing happens

I have tried error checking the disk, rebooting turning firewall and internet security off, etc.

Simple filesharing is turned off

Any ideas as to what is happening?
(I want to share a folder)

Shold have said that I right click and select properties , or sharing and security and nothing happens (oher options off of the right click menu work)

Tim01,

In your workgroup, on this machine, does your logon have full admin privilages?

Yes and I have checked the effective permissions on the root folder and I have full controll read permissions and change permissions I am also the owner of al objects on the disk.

This some times has been caused when ZoneAlarm firewall is run in conjunction with IIS. It has sometimes been fixed by re-installing Client for Microsoft and File and Printer Sharing.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?). LAST KNOWN etc

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
