Can't delete some *.wma files and other Windows XP Media Player problems.

I'm running Windows XP Pro (32bit), Sp1 is installed (long before this problem occurred). I selected an album and file to play within the Media Library (all my files have been installed from my own cd's). Up pops a box labeled "Windows Media Player Error" followed by a yellow triangle with an ! in it. Text states "Windows Media player cannot play one or more files. Right-click the file and then click error details to view information about the error." This is followed by a Tip (i in a balloon) stating " To check if additional information is available at the Microsoft website, click More Help." More Help brings up Microsoft's definition of Error # C00D10BA and instructions on repairing/deleting links to the Music files. At this point I knew I had not moved or deleted the file so that info was inapplicable. So I closed the error message and tried the right-click on the file. That brought up another box stating "Windows Media Player cannot find the file " Whatever-it -was.wma " It may have been removed, renamed or deleted" (Not by me, at least not knowingly and/or intentionally.) The box continues " Enter the new location of the file or select the check box to remove the file from your Media library." Fine! So I typed in the address of the file ( after verifying it with Windows Explorer) and clicked OK. Same problem. The box also has a browse function so I used that to insure against typo's. Again the same results. The correct address was C:\ Documents and Settings\robert\My Documents\My Music\ . To this was added \Reflections\Spirit Lifters\ which was incorrect. I believe but couldn't swear to it that the addition was the last CD I copied to my Media Library. ( I didn't notice the irony about Spirit Lifters at the time, guess my Spirits were just too high.) So, if you can't correct it , delete it and re-install, Right? So I checked "Remove the file from Media Library" and clicked OK. It deleted and disappeared from the album song list. On further investigation I found 10 other albums with the same problem & as with the first one it was the whole album (or folder ) not just an individual song. I then deleted all the problem albums from within WMP by selecting all titles in each and right-click and delete. Worked OK. Then went to All Deleted Media in Media Library and again selected all Titles, right-click, select delete and another box with the option to "Remove music and video files permanently from your hard drive" , checked that box , clicked Yes and again Goodbye to all those titles in the deleted media playlist. So far, so good ! For the heck of it used Windows Explorer to check out My Music to verify they were gone. ( I'm not a trusting soul when it comes to software.) Surprise, surprise! There were all 11 albums which were just "removed permanently from my hard drive". And there they still are. On trying to delete one of these folders in My Music I get a grayed out box "Deleting" and an active box " Error Deleting File or Folder - Cannot delete FILNAM~1.wma : Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name." Ignore the fact that that last sentence is inappropriate to the situation, the files (or at least a record of them) is still there and I can't get rid of them. Seems like only the files deleted at that time have this problem, I haven't been able to duplicate it with other files. I did try one other thing. On rechecking other albums I discovered quite a few missing either the first or last song. I did a search within WMP on the My Music folder hoping to restore missing files and maybe some links. Now about half of my songs are duplicated within each album! If this is normal behavior for WMP I'll have to replace it. Speaking of which, My guess is it is most likely corrupted. What can I expect if I use Control panel Add/remove Windows components to remove and re-install it? Will I lose all the music files ? I guess that doesn't really matter as I will have to repair many of them, I may as well just delete them all and recopy from my CD'S. Any Help at all will be greatly appreciated, I'm not sure what to try next. Sorry if I was too verbose but I figure too much information is better than not enough. Thanks again , Bob Meta-Rule: The Ends Do Not Excuse The Means.

Thanks for your reply, Linney. I've gotten a lot of info from that site but not a solution. I even tried Hackman Sector Editor and it couldn't find those files. I think some how the record of the files is hanging around even tho the files are gone. I finally found a work-around. I couldn't play, locate, delete or rename them but move worked. I moved them to C:\Temp and from there I was able to delete them! Go figure. I will most likely get rid of WMP and replace it with something else. Any suggestions? I just want to copy, burn, listen and have some flexibility on file data and play order. All these skins, etc just distract from the true purpose of the program. Thanks again for your post, it has been very helpful. Bob Meta-Rule: The Ends Do Not Excuse The Means.
