Hello there!

We've got a handful of files that, I'm assuming, are corrupted - if we attempt to backup, edit or delete them, we get a 'no such file' message ... but we can do a directory of them (some can display a date and size, but most can't).

So here's the problem ... I know these particular files are safe to get rid of, but I'm just getting 'file not found' if I try to delete them ... any suggestions on how they can be eliminated? (thank you so much!) :-D

I suggest that you run the following to see the status of your disk: analize/disk (disk_name)

If the disk needs to be cleaned up, then run: analize/disk/repair (disk_name)

If there are any database or other open files on those disks, then shut down the application first, otherwise there is a risk of file corruption.

If you are seeing this on the system disk, then boot the system from another boot device, such as from the VMS install disks, then run the analize command.

Run: help analize/disk for more information

Thank you so much, walace88! I'm sorry I didn't respond before this ... it's taken this long for us to be able to RUN the command with everyone logged off.

That solved the problem!

I use a weekly housekeeping routine to do an ANALYZE/DISK/NOREPAIR to keep an eye on things like these.. the problem tends to aggregate on disks where there is a lot of transient files... such as pathworks disks etc... It also does a lot of other things such as check available file headers etc. All part of good systems management procedures on a system requring high availability. Try and find the problems before they become problems
